Guido Gambone

Grès, Rome

Galleria Giustini / Stagetti

Giustini / Stagetti gallery is delighted to present Guido Gambone. Grès, exhibition dedicated to the research carried out by the master of Vietri ceramics (1909 – 1969) on new forms, materials and experimental glazes, for the production of stoneware works.

The exhibition, curated by Enrico Camponi, presents a large body of works (56) created by Guido Gambone between the mid-1950s and the late 1960s, characterized by a very personal spirit, both modern and primitive, as the result of the study of the ceramic tradition and, at the same time, of the avant-garde artistic currents of Abstractionism and Informal.

Attentive and sensitive protagonist of the decorative arts of the twentieth century, Guido Gambone has distinguished himself since the years of his youth training in Vietri, thanks to his original language in both formal and technical solutions, with particular attention to the quality of the glazes and finishes.

Since 1956, when he lives in Florence, Guido begins experimenting with stoneware mixtures, modeling new shapes with essential, rigorous lines characterized by an unprecedented expressive strength.

On the occasion of the exhibition, a catalogue, including a critical essay by Gilda Cefariello Grosso, has been published. The book is the result of a chronological and stylistic definition of this specific Gambonian production presented for the first time in a monographic exhibition.
