Ercole Barovier (Murano, 1889 - Venice 1974) came from a historic glassmaking family but initially pursued classical studies. He joined the Vetreria Artistica Barovier & C. in his thirties, becoming artistic director in 1926. In 1936, he co-founded Barovier & Toso, leading its artistic output until shortly before his death in 1974. Not a traditional glassmaker or designer, Barovier was a passionate experimenter, blending tradition with innovation. His work ranged from polychrome pieces and Deco sculptures to iconic creations like the Primavera series and vetri rostrati. He revolutionized Murano glass, introducing techniques and styles that remain influential. His son Angelo succeeded him.
