Ignazio Gardella (Milan, 1905 - Milan, 1999), a master of 20th-century Italian modern architecture, graduated in Civil Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano and earned his architecture degree from IUAV in Venice, where he later taught. He designed significant public buildings and private residences, becoming a key figure in post-war Italian architecture. In 1947, he co-founded Azucena, Italy’s first mass-produced furniture company. Gardella’s work was widely published, and he received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 1996. His legacy lives on through exhibitions, publications, and the continued value of his design objects.
